While appearing to be a quaint old town, Harbor Town was built as a tourist attraction begining in the 1950s. This light house was completed in 1970. It was designed to lure passing boats on the Intracoastal Waterway. Unfortunatelhy that entire end of the island is private property. It was the first gated property on the island and the owners extract a $5 toll from each visitor.
